Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions

  • Do these modules count as job search credits for unemployment claims?
Yes, most of our e-learning modules do count as job search activities for unemployment claims. However, please note that each module must be fully completed to qualify. Modules that do not qualify will be noted in their course description. For specific guidance on unemployment claims, we recommend contacting the claim center directly.

  • Can I take these modules even if I’m not in Spokane?
Yes, you can take our e-learning modules from anywhere. Our website is not location-specific. The only requirements are that you are a Washington state resident and have an active account on WorkSourceWA.com.

  • I don't see a date or a time. When does the workshop take place?
The modules that are offered on our Learning Center platform are self-paced and asynchronous in nature. They do not have a scheduled date or time. This allows you to be able to take the workshops when it is most convenient for your schedule.

  • I just tried logging in and my account is inactive. What do I do?
Our Learning Center platform has a limited number of slots for active users. To ensure that these slots are available for users who are actively engaged with the modules, we perform regular audits and deactivate accounts that show no activity for two weeks or more. This process helps us make room for current users who are actively participating. To get your account reactivated, re-register here or send an email to tyler.wright@esd.wa.gov

  • I finished watching the video. How do I move on to the next lesson?
Most of our modules start with a main workshop video, which are condensed versions of our traditional workshops and typically take 1-2 hours to complete. Below the video, you’ll find a “Completed” button. Selecting this button will mark the lesson as complete and move you to the next lesson. Other videos may have a knowledge check question below them. You must answer the question correctly to move on to the next lesson. You can check your progress within a module by selecting the drop-down menu in the upper right area.

  • I finished watching the video, but I can't select the "Completed" button until the time runs out. Can you bypass it?
Generally, no. The timers are in place as an anti-cheating measure. If you finish a video ahead of the timer, the simplest solution is to wait for it to run out. Use this time to review your notes or take a break. Closing the tab or browser before selecting “Completed” will reset the timer. In the event of a technical issue, please send a message or email to tyler.wright@esd.wa.gov

  • I don't have Microsoft [Word/Excel/PowerPoint] on my computer. Can I still take the [Word/Excel/PowerPoint] module?
Yes, you are welcome to enroll in the module and watch the videos. However, to complete the module and receive credit, you will need to finish an assignment in Microsoft [Word/Excel/PowerPoint]. Our computer lab is open Monday through Thursday, 9 AM to 4 PM, for those who need access to a computer, Microsoft Office, or the internet.

  • I submitted an assignment and I'm waiting on an instructor response. How do I move on to the next lesson?
During regular lab hours, we strive to grade all assignments as quickly as possible. Assignments submitted after 4 PM will be graded the following morning. Assignments submitted on weekends will be graded the following Monday morning.

  • I just logged in and it wants me to reset my password. What do I do?
To ensure data security and protect our growing user base, our Learning Center is set up to automatically trigger a password reset after the first login and every two months thereafter. The simplest solution is to use the prompt to update your password.

  •  I just got a “Not Passing” grade on my assignment. What does that mean?
A “Not Passing” grade on an assignment means that you did not meet the required criteria to successfully complete it. This could be due to various reasons, such as not fully addressing the assignment requirements or making errors in your work. When you receive a “Not Passing” grade, you will also receive feedback outlining the areas that need improvement. You are encouraged to review the feedback, make the necessary corrections, and resubmit the assignment. There is no limit to the number of times you can resubmit your work, so take your time to understand the feedback and improve your assignment.

  • The video is too long. Can you add more breaks into the module?
No, we designed these modules to be self-paced, giving you the freedom and flexibility to complete them on your own time. If you need a break while watching a video, simply pause it and resume when you’re ready.

  • What is a Learning Management System (LMS)?
A Learning Management System (LMS) is a software application that helps manage and deliver educational courses, training programs, or learning and development programs. It provides a framework for creating, delivering, and tracking learning content, as well as assessing learner progress. LMSs are used in both educational institutions and corporate settings to support online learning and training, enabling remote access to learning materials from anywhere.

  • How do I create an account on the LMS?
    You can register here: https://forms.spokaneworkforce.org/WorkSourceSpokane/LMS

  • What are the technical requirements for accessing the LMS?
The requirements are minimal. As long as you have a working computer with internet access, you should be able to access our modules without any issues. Our computer lab is open Monday through Thursday, 9 AM to 4 PM for those who need access to a computer, Microsoft Office or the internet.

  • Can I access the LMS on my mobile device?
Yes, you can access the LMS on your mobile device. However, for the best experience, we recommend using a laptop or desktop computer. Many of the exercises and activities are more easily completed on these devices.

  • How do I enroll in a course?
All of our available modules can be found in the Course Catalog. Once you've logged in, the Course Catalog can be found in the upper right side of the website.

  • What types of courses are available on the LMS?
Our LMS offers a variety of courses, primarily focusing on digital literacy and basic computer use. Additionally, we’ve converted our popular Job Hunter workshop series into e-learning modules.

  • How do I track my progress in a course?
After logging in, you’ll be taken to your dashboard. Here, you can view all the modules you’ve enrolled in and their completion status. If a module doesn’t say “Completed,” it means you haven’t finished it yet.

  • Who do I contact for technical support?
For any issues with logging in or with the modules themselves, contact Tyler Wright via email: tyler.wright@esd.wa.gov

  • Are there any fees associated with using the LMS?
    No.

  • How do I provide feedback on a course?
Typically, the end of each course has a Post-Workshop Feedback Survey to complete.

  • Can I access the LMS outside of Washington state?
Once you have your login credentials, you can access the LMS from virtually anywhere.
